Solutions Developer — Los Angeles Office

The ActiveVideo Networks team is looking for a Solutions Developer to be a part of our 3rd Party Developer Support Organization based in the Los Angeles. The mission is to drive the CloudTV platform, creative innovation and application development adoption through direct engagement and support. This role consists of online and in person developer outreach and quality interaction with key industry contacts and customers.

The Solutions Developer position is the blend of a strong web development with broad technical knowledge that will include interaction with current and potential customers. The objective is to engage and provide support for a broad community of developers while continuing to drive adoption of building applications for the CloudTV H5™ platform.

The successful candidate should be an industry professional who has a previous successful track record building and deploying interactive applications for media and/or entertainment companies in the 10-foot space. The candidate should also have an established reputation in the industry for significant technical achievement, effective and visible developer community participation, and a strong command of online and social networking tools. 


Responsibilities and skills: 

  • Driving increased broad scale adoption of Active Video CloudTV by supporting 3rd party developers and teams
  • Building and maintaining high-quality relationships with developer community leaders and influencers
  • Demonstrated track-record of sustained, long term developer community involvement 
  • Participating in, and defining training sessions for new and existing developers and customers
  • Experience with modern Interactive TV Platforms
  • Experience with multiple, current software development platforms
  • Demonstrable hands-on Television UIX development skills and experience with key current and emerging technologies such as HMTL5
  • Strong understanding of modern web development standards
  • Excellent presentation skills to technical and creative community
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Travel availability up to 50%


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in the TV / Software Industry interactive television and rich media web sites.
  • Expert in the areas of HTML, JavaScript, CSS
  • Experience with leveraging third party APIs within interactive applications
  • Minimum of 2 years experience integrating video into web applications
  • A compelling blend of passion, customer advocacy, curiosity and creativity

 
EDUCATION

  • Requires a BA/BSC degree or equivalent technical.

Senior System Administrator

Senior System Administrator
The Senior System Administrator position is responsible for day-to-day operations of 24x7 web/digital media environments.  This position will assist in the plan and build-outs of new data centers or expansions.  The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for maintenance and configuration of servers, networks and other data center equipment.  This position will aid in designing and implementing redundancy, disaster recovery and system failovers.  This position will monitor and respond to system alerts and outages on a 24x7 basis.  This position will establish/recommend policies on system use and services.  The senior system administrator will troubleshoot data center issues from inception to remediation. 


Responsibilities and skills: 

  • Assist in plan and build-outs of new data centers or data center expansions
  • Maintain and configure servers, networks and other data center equipment
  • Design/implement system redundancy, failover and disaster recovery
  • Monitor and respond to system alerts and outages on a 24x7 basis
  • Establish/recommend policies on system use and services

Qualifications:

  • Deep working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP. IP Networks, Firewalls, VLANs, VPN Tunnels
  • Linux and shell scripting skills
  • Experience working in a rapid response 24x7 environment
  • Self-starter and independent worker
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Deep experience with Windows and Linux servers and operating systems
  • Experience with SAN, NAS, RAID
  • Experience with load balancers a plus
  • Experience installing rack-mounted devices
  • Some travel (to data centers) required
  • 24x7 on call

Solutions Architect

The Solutions Architect has a complete length and breadth view of ActiveVideo’s product suite, thereby providing clear guidance to both internal teams and customers. Since this role epitomizes technical knowledge and acumen, it greatly influences the ActiveVideo’s product roadmap and direction. The ideal candidate takes complete end-to-end ownership of the customer solution and provides a final seal of approval for customer implementations. The Solutions architect makes creative recommendations, as required, to the ActiveVideo’s product management team, as well as customer’s product management. These recommendations could be one or more of the following:

  • Enhancing the existing ActiveVideo’s product suite with new functionality
  • Augment existing ActiveVideo’s product suite with additional components
  • Enhancing the Customer’s existing product.
  • Augment the Customer’s product suite with additional modules

 

Responsibilities and skills: 

  • Strong Software Design, & Architecture experience, especially in distributed and fault tolerant systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in multi media (such a transport streams, MPEG2, H264, Audio….).
  • Ability to analyze TS
  • In-depth knowledge of 3 or more of the following web technologies, caching, IP networks, Cable, routing, multicasting, etc…
  • Travel availability up to 15 – 25 %

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in architecting distributed system in multi media space
  • Strong technical background with mastery over one of more of the following languages: (C, C++, Java)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write clear documents and tech-notes

Network Architect

The Network Architect provides technical leadership in Customer engagements including system modeling, system design, and network engineering.  The role is responsible for understanding technical aspects of the relationship with the Customer and technical requirements that arise in the account and then working closely with the Account Executive, the Sales Engineer, the Solutions Architect and the Customer Program Manager to shape the technical objectives and plans for the Account and to work with all internal and external teams achieve the defined objectives in pre-sales, deployment phase and post-deployment support.

The ideal candidate combines Customer relationship skills with ample technical depth and strong technical planning ability.  Strong technical leadership in the Account; the ability to engage, problem-solve, and oversee technical Account activities is key.


Responsibilities and Skills: 

  • Responsible for overall success of network engineering design and deployment activities as well as Tier 3 support in Customer Account
  • Strong sense of accountability and responsibility for Customer success around the technical aspects
  • Ability to engage Customer in technical discussions and facilitate Customer discussions around network design, Deployment Activities and Support. This includes one or more of the following:
    • Generating network deployment diagrams- both IP and Cable-RF based
    • Computing machine sizing requirements
    • Scope out firewall, load balancer, storage, and other network needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Strong technical background and knowledge especially with the major tools and technologies in use at ActiveVideo in the Cable industry video technology space, the IPTV industry video technology space, and the internet video streaming technology space.
  • Travel availability up to 25%

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in cable industry system engineering and architecture
  • Strong technology background

Deployment Engineer

Responsibilities and skills: 

  • Installation and setup of AVN Networks platform and applications remotely and onsite at customer locations
  • Configure servers, virtual machines & operating systems in lab and production environments
  • Prepare and plan installations review of system/network design and regular correspondence with customers
  • Work closely and collaboratively with QA, engineering and customers to ensure high-quality implementations and post-implementation technical support
  • Enter detailed data into ticket tracking system for all installations/issues worked
  • Document current and future configuration processes and policies
  • Provide feedback loop to engineering on installation and deployment issues
  • Maintain up to date in-depth knowledge of the entire service architecture and system flow
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Travel from 25% - 50%


Qualifications:

Must be able to demonstrate detailed technical knowledge in all of the following areas:

  • Strong hands-on Linux server experience. Expertise in system setup, configuration, administration and troubleshooting
  • Industry experience working with medium to large scale systems, applications and network deployments for external customers
  • Understanding of internet standards such as DNS, FTP, SSH, HTML, XML, SNMP and other protocols
  • IP communication and packet structure, with focus on HTTP protocol and experience with network protocol analyzers
  • Familiar with network concepts including load balancing equipment, switches, routers, firewalls and network troubleshooting
  • Expert use of monitoring and troubleshooting utilities to effectively diagnose problems
  • Basic understanding of capacity planning and high availability
  • knowledge of relational databases/SQL
  • Knowledge of storage (SAN, NAS) a plus
  • Cable head-end and RF knowledge a plus
  • Experience with scripting and automation of tasks a plus
