Sr. Tools Developer-Temporary Position
ActiveVideo Networks is seeking a temporary Sr Tools Developer who can combine deep technical knowledge and expertise in the areas of developing infrastructure and tools required to deploy large scale mission critical solutions and services. The scope of expertise will include managing and monitoring n-tiered complex deployments to meet high availability SLA’s of 99.99% uptime. The temporary assignment will be for 3-6 months.
Responsibilities and skills:
- Understand requirements and evaluate products/solutions for provisioning, configuration, alerting and monitoring, reporting dashboards
- Define and develop appropriate programming abstractions and APIs for various backend services
- Experience with writing plug-in and extending some or all of the following tools: Chef, Puppet, CF Engine, Spacewalk, Splunk, Nagios, OpsView, Open NMS
- Should have in depth knowledge of following technologies: CentOS, Linux, Apache, Java, Javascript, SNMP MIBS and Traps, rsyslog, syslog, CRON, http, XML, JSON, lighttpd, FastCGI
- Must have proficient coding skills in scripting languages Ruby, Perl and python
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to debug integration issues across complex n-tiered systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong initiative and drive
- Strong technical background and knowledge especially with the major tools and technologies used in the Cable industry and the internet video streaming technology space.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in writing tools
- Minimum 7 years programming experience
- Familiarity the industry standard deployment and monitoring tools
- Ability to leverage existing technologies and innovate
- Strong network operations and technology background
Education
- Requires a Bachelors degree in a Computer Science or a related technical field.

Sr. Systems Administrator
The Senior System Administrator position is responsible for supporting day-to-day operations of 24x7 corporate IT infrastructures. The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for maintenance and configuration of corporate backend servers, networks, storage, and client systems. This position will aid in designing and implementing redundancy, disaster recovery and system failovers. This position will monitor and respond to system alerts and outages on a 24x7 basis. This position will establish/recommend policies on system use and services.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Assist in plan and set up corporate technical infrastructures supporting multiple offices worldwide
- Maintain and configure corporate backend physical and virtual servers, networks, storage, and client systems.
- Design, implement, and maintain system redundancy, failover and disaster recovery

Qualifications

- 8+ years working experience in current Microsoft server and client technologies
- 5+ years experience in storage related technologies, SAN, NAS, RAID
- 5+ years experience applying virtualization technologies in mission-critical production environment
- 3+ years experience supporting client system including laptops, desktop, and smart devices
- Experience managing high volume data backup and restoration
- Deep working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, IP Networks, Firewalls, VLANs, WLAN, VPN Tunnels
- Experience working in supporting multiple remote offices around the clock
- Self-starter and independent worker
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Deep knowledge with Windows servers and operating systems
- Experience installing rack-mounted devices and cabling

New Deployment & Installation Engineer
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Installation and setup of AVN Networks and Applications onsite at customer locations and remotely
- Maintain an up to date in-depth knowledge of the entire service architecture and system flow
- Server OS setup and configuration
- Provide feedback loop to engineering on installation and deployment issues
- Provide system/network design help to network engineering
- Enter detailed data into ticket tracking system for all installations/issues worked
- Write tools/scripts to facilitate installation, support and maintenance of AVN Networks and Applications
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
- Travel from 25% - 50%
Qualifications
Must be able to demonstrate detailed technical knowledge in all of the following areas:
- Windows and Linux server experience. Expertise in system configuration, administration, troubleshooting
- Understanding of internet standards such as -DNS, FTP, SSH, HTML, XML, SNMP and other protocols
- IP communication and packet structure, with focus on HTTP protocol and experience with network protocol analyzers
- Network concepts including experience with load balancing equipment, switches, routers, firewalls and network troubleshooting
- Expert use of monitoring and troubleshooting utilities to effectively diagnose problems
- Basic understanding of Capacity Planning
- Experience with Windows and Linux Imaging Software: Ghost, Symantec Live State Backup Recovery, Spacewalk
- Experience building out servers – Linux/Windows-based
- Knowledge of relational databases/SQL

- Storage (SAN, NAS) a plus
- Cable head-end and RF knowledge a plus

MySQL DBA
The MySQL DBA is responsible for engineering, administration, tuning, monitoring and support of AVNs Monitoring and Reporting databases in our production data centers. This position will setup good MySQL practices, design and implement database disaster recovery and failover processes, design, implement and monitor database backup and recovery processes, deploy and upgrade databases as needed and troubleshoot database issues. The DBA will interface with engineers responsible for the Monitoring and Reporting Systems; aiding with database design and functionality. The DBA will be on call for 24x7 production issues.
